MENTAL GAME STRONG

A CONVERSATION WITH COURTNEY THOMPSON

WITH JEREMY HORN

Kent, Washington’s Courtney Thompson became the first female athlete ever to have her jersey retired from the University of Washington after leading the 2005 team to its first ever National Championship in volleyball, setting multiple UW and NCAA records along the way. Her over-achieving at UW earned her an ESPY nomination at the 2006 awards for best female collegiate athlete.

From then she has gone on to win a Silver medal with the 2012 US Olympic team and a Bronze with the 2016 team. Oh and in-between those games she won the 2014 Gold Medal in the FIVB World Championship with her Brazilian club team.

The point is, Courtney Thompson is a winner. She has achieved the highest achievements at every level she has competed in. And as you can hear in this interview, that is no coincidence as Courtney delves into the mental game that determines the razor thin line between a ‘competitor’ and a ‘Champion’. Enjoy!
